ArkHost can assist with IMAP email migration when the source provider and mailboxes are compatible. Contact us before ordering. We review the source, mailbox count and migration scope first.
Request a migration review
Open a support ticket before ordering. Include:
- Your domain name and current email provider.
- The number of mailboxes you want to move.
- The approximate used storage for each mailbox.
- Whether you also need calendars, contacts, aliases or forwarding addresses reviewed.
- Who currently manages the domain's DNS records.
We confirm whether the source supports IMAP migration, whether the ArkHost mailbox size fits the data, what access is required and the expected migration plan.
What IMAP migration covers
IMAP migration copies email messages and folders from a compatible source mailbox to the matching ArkHost mailbox. It does not automatically transfer calendars, contacts, aliases, forwarding rules, filters, signatures or mail-app settings.
Tell us about anything beyond email messages before we start. We will confirm what can be moved and what you need to recreate or export separately.
Keep the old email service active
Do not cancel your existing email service before the move is complete. Keep it active until ArkHost mailboxes receive and send mail correctly and the expected messages are available.
Once the migration plan is agreed, create the ArkHost service and mailboxes as instructed. Then use the current DNS records shown in the Setup tab of your Hosted Email service. Remove conflicting MX or SPF records left by the previous provider.
After the DNS change
- Send a test message to and from each mailbox.
- Check that expected folders and recent messages are present.
- Connect mail apps using the current IMAP and SMTP settings in the Setup tab.
- Keep the previous provider active until you are satisfied that mail flow and migrated messages are correct.
